Barcelona 2-0 Sporting CP: Messi becomes the most capped South America player in UCL

Lionel Messi was among the substitutes as Barcelona won their last Champions League group game 2-0 against Sporting Lis.
Messi becomes the most (121) capped South America player in UCL as Alcacer on target.

Jeremy Mathieu scored an own-goal on his return to Camp Nou as Barcelona laboured to a 2-0 win over Sporting CP with Lionel Messi a second-half substitute.

Coach Ernesto Valverde opted to rest his side's star player and watched as the likes of Luis Suarez and Aleix Vidal misfired for almost an hour against Jorge Jesus' well-drilled Sporting teams.

18" over.  Mathieu is back at the Nou Camp tonight but in a Sporting shirt this time. He forgets who he's meant to be passing to early on as he gives the ball away on the edge of his area. Luckily for him, though, his team-mates bail him out.

18' OVER! First half chance for Barca as the ball falls to Vidal on the edge of the area, but he smashes it over the bar.

20' CLOSE! Barca starting to turn the screw a little. Carvalho loses the ball to Gomes in his own half, and he charges forward and has a pop which goes just wide of the post.

24' SAVE! Brilliant from Luis Suarez. He suddenly turns it on as he skips inside his man and darts into the box, but Patricio is out sharply to deny him.

37' SHOT! Fernandes has a pop from distance but he doesn't quite catch it right and it's straight at Cillessen in the Barca goal.
GOAL!  Barcelona have taken the lead! A curling cross from a corner swerves towards the edge of the six-yard box and perfectly picks out Alcacer, who rises high above his marker and beats Patricio with an excellent glancing header.

63' CHANCE!!!!! Big big chance for Dost in the middle as the ball arrives on a plate for him six yards from goal. Cillessen does brilliantly to make the save, but he shouldn't even have been given the chance to do so.

Let off for BARCELONA
